Upcoming event: Shuffle Race for Literacy

Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the annual Glenwood Canyon Shuffle Race for Literacy Saturday, Oct. 8.

A half-marathon (13.1-mile) run and relay race and 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run/walk will take place on the bike path in Glenwood Canyon.

The race is the final event in the Glenwood Charity Race Series.

People who register for three of the four series events will be entered into a raffle for prizes. (The YouthZone Uphill Challenge Sept. 24 is the third race in the series. For more information on the series, visit glenwoodraces.com.)

The Glenwood Canyon Shuffle half-marathon begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 8, and the 5K starts at 10. Buses will take participants from the finish line at the No Name exit of Glenwood Canyon to the race starting points. Relay teams of up to five people are welcome to participate in the half-marathon.

The entry fee is $20 per person in the half-marathon, and $50 per team, and the 5K cost is $15 per person. A late fee of $5 per person and $25 per team applies to entries received after Oct. 4. The entry fee includes a long-sleeved T-shirt, and for the first 100 entrants, a pair of Thorlo socks.

Online registration is available at http://www.active.com. Or, for a race form or further information, contact Tom Lacy, 618-2478, or by e-mail at tom_lacy@peoplepc.com.

The race benefits Literacy Outreach, a nonprofit organization that teaches literacy skills to adults.
