Walters takes Valley Championship

In the battle for the top golfer in the valley, Roger Walters proved to be the best candidate, shooting a three-day 216 to win the first ever Valley Championship that wrapped up on Sunday at Rifle Creek Golf Course.With a round of 75 at Lakota Canyon on Friday, then hitting a 74 at River Valley Ranch on Saturday, Walters had to make a small climb on Sunday to get to the top of the standings.Luckily for Walters, Sunday’s play was on his home course and he carded a 67, the best score of the day for the win. Joe Elliot came in second with a 221.Steve Whitehead won the tournament’s second flight, hitting a 256 and beating John Savage’s 261.Tami Holt earned a championship in the women’s field, shooting a 246 to edge Erin Galbreath by one stroke.Twenty-one golfers participated in the inaugural run of the tournament, seven in the championship flight, six in the second flight and eight on the women’s side.
