Warning: Parking at GSHS may be a problem

With construction still in full swing, a rivalry football game expected to bring in the masses from Glenwood and Rifle, the Demon 5K race and businesses operating, parking is expected be a big mess on Friday night at Glenwood Springs High School.Construction has shrunk the high school’s parking lot significantly, leaving only a small dirt lot for football fans looking to catch the Rifle-Glenwood showdown at 7 p.m.Glenwood’s cross country team is also holding a fundraiser, the Demon 5K community race, that will take in the field and paths behind the school. The race starts at 5 p.m., so runners should be cleared out by the time the football game starts.Glenwood Springs Athletic Director Steve Cable is advising people to come early, and be prepared to park down streets, like Coach Miller Drive and Colorado Court, or even at the City Market parking lot.Business in the Van Rand Center, which include Russo’s Pizza and Taipei Toyko, will still need parking for customers and have asked the school to remind sports fans not to park in their spaces.There is a small parking lot belonging to the school that shares the same entrance as the Van Rand Center. After entering Van Rand, take a right and there is a lot in front of the new entrance to the school that can hold a few dozen cars.
