Weather washes out prep soccer, softball games
It wasn’t just the Rockies who had their game pushed back because of the nasty weather that descended on Colorado Tuesday.Along with the Major League Baseball game against Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field, the weather also drove a number of prep events in and around Glenwood Springs from the fields. Among them were a pair of boys soccer games and a softball game.In Class 4A Western Slope soccer the Glenwood Springs-Palisade contest scheduled for an evening kickoff at Stubler Field was delayed because of rain and cold. Glenwood (2-1-1 WSL, 3-1-1 overall) was coming off its first loss, while Palisade (0-5, 0-5) is still searching for its first victory. A makeup date has not been set, according to Glenwood Springs High School athletic director Steve Cable. Farther up the Roaring Fork Valley, Basalt’s soccer game at rival Aspen was postponed because of snow and rain. Basalt leads the Class 3A Western Slope League with a record of 3-0 (6-1 overall), while Aspen has yet to play a league game and is 3-1 overall. The game is scheduled to be made up Oct. 2.On the diamond, the Rifle softball team will have to wait until Oct. 4 for its rematch with Montrose.
