X Games names famed skier, football player Jeremy Bloom as new CEO of action sports franchise
X Games named a new CEO on Thursday and it’s one that needs little introduction.
Famed moguls skier and football player Jeremy Bloom has been picked to lead the iconic action sports franchise into the future, a move that also brings Bloom back to his upbringing as a Colorado skier.
MSP Sports Capital is the current owner of X Games, having purchased a majority stake in the brand in October 2022 from ESPN.
“The opportunity to lead the X Games is more than just a professional milestone — it’s a deeply personal honor. Returning to my roots in sports and action sports, in particular, feels like coming home,” Bloom said in a news release. “The X Games is an iconic brand, and I have immense admiration and respect for our athletes, who are truly the best in the world.”
Bloom, 42, grew up in Loveland and learned to ski at Keystone. Originally an Alpine skier, he transitioned to moguls skiing and became one of the best the sport has ever seen. A member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, Bloom’s resume includes 26 World Cup podiums, 12 World Cup wins, two Olympic teams, and three World Cup titles. He’s a three-time world champion.
Bloom was also a star returner for the University of Colorado football team and had a short-lived career in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles, retiring in 2009.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jeremy as the leader of X Games,” said Jeff Moorad, Partner at MSP and Executive Chairman of X Games, in the news release. “His dedication, athletic experience and proven track record of building and managing successful companies will be instrumental in continuing to elevate our X Games properties and the X Games League.”
Bloom in 2010 co-founded the B2B enterprise software company Integrate, where he served as CEO even after the company was acquired by Audax Private Equity in 2022. He will step down from the role to serve as X Games CEO.
Bloom also founded a nonprofit, Wish of a Lifetime, in 2008 to honor his grandmother. It grants lifelong wishes to people who are 80-plus and has fulfilled thousands of wishes since its inception.
“Jeremy’s unique perspective as both an athlete and a business leader gives him deep understanding of what drives athletes and how to provide the best fan experience,” said Jahm Najafi, partner and chairman at MSP, in the news release. “Jeremy’s vision and leadership will be pivotal in shaping the future of X Games and XGL, including fostering growth while staying true to the spirit and culture that make it so iconic.”
Winter X Games is scheduled to return to Aspen’s Buttermilk Ski Area — its home since 2002 — from Jan. 23-25. According to the news release, under MSP’s leadership over the past two years, the property has seen a 113% increase in streaming audiences and 2.4 million new social media followers.
Bloom will also oversee the summer edition of X Games.
“I’m excited to work with the team to further elevate the X Games and build the largest action sports leagues in the world, creating platforms that celebrate our athletes and inspires our fans around the world,” Bloom said.
He currently lives in Boulder with his wife and two children.
