Young tallies two tricks in Grizzlies sweep

Kevin Young notched two three-goal performances as the Glenwood Springs Grizzlies midget hockey team swept Oak Creek in a two-game set on the road Sunday.The Grizzlies beat Oak Creek 4-1 in the first game and rolled to a 6-0 shutout in the second contest. With the victories, Glenwood (22-4-2) claimed sole possession of first place in the Central Division of the Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League with four divisional games remaining.In the first game, Young got the Grizzlies off to a quick start with the game’s first goal, but Oak Creek bounced back to even the score later in the first period. Young then assisted on the eventual game-winner to Anthony Ferrara and closed out the game with two more goals. Ferrara finished day with six points (a goal and two assists in each game).In the second game the Grizzlies maintained the momentum they built earlier in the day with an easy victory. Young scored his three goals in consecutive fashion. Rory Nankervis had two assists in the game.The Grizzlies next game is a nonleague contest at Vernal, Utah, Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game starts at 9:45 p.m., while Saturday’s game is at 12:30 p.m.
