The U10 Glenwood Springs Lightning Bolts girls soccer team, with victories over Parachute and Silt recently, concluded its season with an unblemished 8-0 record.

Lilly McSwain scored twice and Jackie Knott also had a goal in Glenwood’s 3-2 win over previously unbeaten Parachute.

Goalkeeper Erica Arensman posted a 6-0 shutout against Silt, receiving offensive help from Mikaela Richardson, Daryian Hawkins and Rachel Rosenberg.



Competing in the Grand Mesa Invitational tournament at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction, the Glenwood Ice U11 girls team won all four of its tournament games to earn the U11-12 girls advanced silver division championship.

Glenwood opened the tournament on Saturday with a 3-0 shutout win over the New Castle Pride, followed by a convincing 5-1 victory against the Steamboat Shock.



Playing against the Steamboat Strikers Sunday, Glenwood’s Corey Gera and Holly Brown each scored second-half goals to break a 0-0 halftime tie. Hope Whitman added a penalty shot goal, raising the score to 3-0 to secure the Ice’s place in the division finals.

Matching up with the Montrose Avalanche in the final, Brown scored the game’s only goal in the second half.

The Ice concludes the regular season Thursday against Basalt at Gates Soccer Park and is scheduled to compete in the annual Glenwood Springs Tournament, also at Gates, Memorial Day weekend.

Another Glenwood Ice squad, playing in the U12 girls division of the Durango Shootout Tournament, took first place by winning three of its four tournament games.

The Ice opened play with a 6-0 victory over the Ridgway Firecrackers. Haley Amichaux led the offense by scoring three goals as Glenwood keeper Clara Thorsen posted a shutout.

Glenwood’s streak continued as it posted a 3-1 win against the Gallup, N.M., Sting on goals from Nicole Kontour and Sara Treese.

The Ice suffered its only tournament loss, a 3-1 affair, to the Corrales, N.M., Cyclones, but rebounded with a 4-0 win over Telluride for the tournament title.

The Basalt Rocks U14 girls soccer team won four games at the Durango Shootout Soccer Tournament to wrap up the season with an undefeated record. The Rocks finished out the season with a record 10-0-1 overall.

The Durango tournament included wins over Telluride, Albuquerque (N.M.) and Gallup (N.M.) as the Rocks gave up just one goal in four games. Captains Melissa Stewart and Heather Nemeic paced the team all year, with Stewart scoring 13 goals in four games to up her team-high season total to 26 goals.

Goaltenders Tia Thacker and Kelli Kovach provided solid goaltending throughout the season, with each averaging one goal against.

The Glenwood Ice U11 boys team downed Eagle Valley and Silverthorne last weekend.

In the 4-1 victory over Eagle Valley, Boris Kulwiec, Caine Hilderbrand and Keilin Casey all scored for the Ice, while Alex Henderson earned the win in goal.

Lucas Santana, Hilderbrand, Kulwiec and Casey each had goals in the 4-2 win over Silverthorne. Carter Colia and Hilderbrand split time in goal for the Ice.

The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club will conduct events at Gates Soccer Park on June 1-2. On June 1, a registration and orientation for boys and girls moving to the U11 age division will take place at 5:30 p.m.

Tryouts for the girls U12 and U14 teams are at 5:30 p.m. on June 2. On the same date, tryouts for the boys U12, U13 and U14 teams begin at 6:30 p.m.
