Semi rollover closes eastbound I-70 at New Castle

Emergency responders were dispatched to a semi rollover near Canyon Creek at about 1:10 p.m. Friday, and the eastbound lane of Interstate 70 remained closed outside of New Castle for most of Friday night.

The highway reopened just before 10 p.m., nearly nine hours after the crash as it was a more complicated removal process given the type of vehicle involved.

Traffic was rerouted to adjacent U.S. 6 during the cleanup.

The semi that rolled was carrying concrete, though CSP reports that no concrete was spilled as a result. The driver of the semi was transported to Valley View Hospital, but information on the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

Another vehicle was involved in the wreck, and no occupants from that vehicle were transported for injuries.
