Garfield County sting operation nets 10 suspects in anti-human trafficking and fugitive location efforts

A sting operation conducted by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with multiple local and federal agencies, led to the arrest of 10 individuals from across Garfield County on various charges, including severe crimes against children and active warrants for their arrests.

The operation took place over March 7- 8 as part of a concerted effort to combat human trafficking and locate fugitives within the county, according to information released by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Among the individuals apprehended were residents from Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Rifle and Parachute, with ages ranging from 22 to 47. The charges laid against them include internet luring of a child, soliciting for child prostitution, patronizing a prostituted child, attempted sexual assault of a child, among other related felonies, according to the news release. Additionally, some suspects were taken into custody on active warrants for crimes ranging from sexual assault of a child to vehicular homicide.



The collaborative effort included the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Glenwood Springs Police Department, Rifle Police Department, Basalt Police Department, the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Garfield County Special Problem Enforcement and Response Team.

The operation also led to the seizure of approximately 4.8 grams of methamphetamine and around 2,000 Fentanyl pills.



Officials have indicated that further charges may be forthcoming as the investigations progress.
