Injured hiker rescued in Snowmass

A 71-year-old hiker from California on Monday was rescued after suffering a head injury and possible broken arm on the South Rim Trail in Snowmass Village, according to a PitkinAlert.

“The South Rim Trail is a popular, yet steep and difficult 4-mile long trail beginning in Snowmass Village, that connects with the longer Rim Trail after a 750-foot ascent,” according to the alert.

Pitkin County regional dispatch received the call at approximately 4:40 p.m.



“Shortly after 5:00 PM, the Snowmass Village police officer made contact with the injured hiker and their hiking companion,” the alert states. “The officer then began relaying pertinent information to incoming rescuers. At 5:15 PM, an (Roaring Fork Fire Rescue) paramedic also reached their location and began medically evaluating and stabilizing the injured hiker.

Roaring Fork Fire Rescue and Mountain Rescue Aspen responded to the incident around 4:40 p.m. and reached the hiker were able to aid the individual with non-life threatening injuries.



The injured individual was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital.
