Duane Guy Scott, Jr. passed away at his home in Longview, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 78 years old.

Duane was the first of three sons born to Duane and Annie Scott. He grew up on the family cattle ranch on East Divide Creek, where he would tell you that his best playmate was his older sister, Terry. At an early age, he learned how to operate the ranch equipment and was his Dad’s dedicated helper.

He attended Rifle High School graduating with the class of 1963. He was an outstanding athlete, and he loved competing as a Rifle Bear. He was a three-sport athlete, and was so proud to share the accomplishment of the 1963 track and field team that won the state championship and the 1961-62 football team that tied for the state championship.

He went on to play football at Mesa Junior College for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1964-1968 during the Vietnam War. His first tour of duty was on board the USS Constellation and his second, the USS Coral Sea.

Duane married the former Diana Boyer in August, 1970. He not only fell in love with Diana . but also her two sons, Aaron and Eric, and soon adopted them to be his own. They divorced and he would later marry the former Judie Whiteside.
Duane preferred hot, humid days in Texas over the cold Colorado winters. He found his freedom on the open road, independently operating his own tractor trailer for more than 25 years. traveling from coast to coast. He was always pursuing a day better than the day before on the greens. He was a kind, quiet man with a gentle soul. He was a good son, a trusted brother, a loving father, a loyal husband and a faithful friend.

He is survived by his wife, Judie of the home, son Eric (Stacey) of Boulder, sister, Terry Snow of Coto de Caza, California, brother, Clark (Tina) of New Castle, two granddaughters and three great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Stanley, and brother in law Ron Snow.

A private memorial has been held to honor him and his life in his final resting place by those who loved him most, high atop a mountain overlooking East Divide creek, as per his wishes.
