Polegia Earleen was born to Polegia and Earl Bloomenraider in Grand Island, Nebraska on November 27th, 1940 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was raised in Grand Island and graduated high school in 1958. She joined Sisters of St. Joseph convent where she took her vows and the name Sister Jean Martin, a name that would stay with her for the rest of her life. While in the convent Marti achieved her BA in Education and Counseling, and eventually achieved a Masters degree and Pastoral degree. From there she was assigned to Chicago to work for the Arch Diocese of Chicago to work with the Polish and Italian communities as a teacher and social worker until 1973. She then moved to Glenwood Springs for health reasons. She would stay with the convent until June of 1975. Social work and counseling was her calling and she would continue that work with St. Stephen Church and School, Mountain Valley Development Services, Sunnyside Retirement Center, Valley View Hospital and her own counseling service, May I Walk With You.

Services for Marti will be held on Monday, February 23rd at St Stephen’s Church. Rosary begins at 10:30 and Mass will begin at 11 with reception to follow.
