Obituary: Randy Urban

April 8, 1963 – March 25, 2026

Randall Wayne Urban passed away unexpectedly on March 25th, 2026. Randy was born to Jerry and Jackie Urban on April 8, 1963 in Glenwood Springs, CO. He attended the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind in Colorado Springs, graduating in 1982. Randy worked a variety of jobs in the Rifle area. He started work at Snowmass Water & Sanitation in 1990 and worked there until his passing. Randy married Cathy Reed on June 4th, 1994. They adopted their son Armando in 2001.
Jack Harris, Randy’s grandfather, taught him auto mechanics and began Randy’s lifelong interest in vehicles and motor repair. Randy restored a 1979 Jeep J-10 truck. He studied a variety of martial arts including karate, kung fu and held a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He studied dog training and had many beloved dogs. Randy was musically inclined and played the clarinet, piano, fiddle and guitar. He traveled to California with his high school bell choir. Randy became a certified EMT in the state of Colorado in spite of a severe visual impairment.
Randy went camping with Cathy, Armando, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He taught them to be fearless while riding dirt bikes and 4-wheelers and how to repair anything. He taught them the value of family and friends. Randy taught his son Armando to be kind, brave, helpful and to defend the defenseless.
Randy is survived by his wife Cathy, son Armando (Dani), grandchildren Jaxdyn, Osiris and Orion, his mother Jackie Urban, his sister Catherine Bingham (Mike Rebhan), his brother Manuel Todd (Julie) Urban and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Lifeline Puppy Rescue or the Colorado Talking Book Library. There will be a celebration of life at the Flat Tops Cowboy Church, 289 1st street, Silt, CO 81652 on Saturday April 11th at 1 p.m.
