Pipeline proposal south of Rifle open for public comment

The White River National Forest and Bureau of Land Management Colorado River Valley Field Office are seeking feedback on a proposal for new natural gas and water pipelines south of Rifle. The West Mamm Creek Pipeline Project Draft Environmental Assessment, now available for review, outlines plans for about 7 miles of pipelines.

The project, led by TEP Rocky Mountain LLC and Grand River Gathering LLC, would reduce truck traffic by delivering produced water into an existing management system and transporting natural gas to markets nationwide. The pipelines are expected to improve transportation efficiency in the area while supporting current infrastructure.

If approved, the pipelines would cross 2.9 miles of National Forest System lands, 2.1 miles of BLM-managed lands, and 2.1 miles of private property. Rights-of-way approvals from the BLM and a special use permit from the Forest Service are required to proceed.

The proposal does not include new oil or gas development, but the pipeline system could support future projects. Any such proposals involving federal lands or minerals would require separate review and public input.
