Roaring Fork School Board to review enrollment during Wednesday’s board meeting

The Roaring Fork School Board is set for its regularly scheduled meeting at 6:15 p.m Wednesday at the Carbondale District Office, 400 Sopris Ave. The agenda includes key topics such as the first review of the 2024-25 academic calendar and the 2023-24 amended budget.
Chief Financial Officer Nathan Markham will also present on the 2024-25 General Fund Revenue. Markham’s presentation, which is already available online, shows that current enrollment for the district’s 2023-24 school year of 5,653 is down marginally from 5,662 students during the 2022-2023 school year.
The board will also review and be asked to accept the 2023-24 school year budget, which includes updated revenue based on the average number of students throughout the past five years.
Each year, Colorado’s School Finance Act distributes funding to districts on a per-pupil basis. The formula results in the Total Program Funding. According to Markham’s Wednesday presentation, the 2024-25 fiscal year for the district is projected to receive $11,789 per pupil.
Before the main meeting, there will be a public work session regarding the hiring of a new superintendent, as talks continue regarding the replacement for Jesus Rodríguez, who left the position in October.
The search for a new superintendent started Dec. 14. During a Jan. 10 work session, the board said they had received two complete applications. Finalists will be interviewed by a committee of district family and staff members, as well as by the board. Final interviews are set to take place the week of March. 4.
