1. Two teens identified in fatal wrong-way I-70 crash near Rifle

An 18-year-old Silt woman and a 17-year-old Glenwood Springs boy were killed early Sunday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 70 just east of Rifle, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The Garfield County Coroner’s Office identified the drivers Monday as Reese Allen, 18, of Silt, and Kyle McKinney, 17, of Glenwood Springs.

Colorado State Patrol responded at about 2:36 a.m. Sunday to the three-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 near mile marker 93.

2. Charges dismissed against former Glenwood Springs school resource officer

All remaining criminal charges against former Glenwood Springs police officer and school resource officer Sean Tatro have been dismissed, ending a case that began with his arrest more than two years ago and resulted in a mistrial earlier this year.

The 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to dismiss the case Aug. 28. Judge Anne Norrdin granted the dismissal Aug. 31.

Tatro had been scheduled to return to trial Sept. 16 on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from allegations of domestic violence, sexual assault and use of a stun gun.

3. Rep. Lauren Boebert’s eldest son sentenced to probation, 20 days in jail

Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was sentenced Thursday to two years of supervised probation and 20 days in jail with work release after violating a deferred judgment in a 2024 attempted identity theft case.

9th Judicial District Court Judge Elise Myer revoked Tyler Boebert’s deferred judgment, meaning his Class 5 felony conviction will now be entered on his record.

Tyler Boebert pleaded guilty in 2024 to attempted identity theft after Rifle police arrested him following a series of vehicle trespass and property theft incidents. He originally faced 22 charges, but the remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

4. Silt trustees terminate town manager’s contract following investigation

The Silt Board of Trustees unanimously voted Monday to terminate Town Manager Jim Mann’s contract, more than a month after placing him on paid administrative leave following employment-related complaints and an investigation. 

Mann was placed on leave in July after trustees directed Denver-based Investigations Law Group to investigate complaints against him. The board also appointed Town Administrator Jeff Layman as interim town manager while the investigation was underway.

The Post Independent attempted to reach out to the Town of Silt, Town Attorney Michael Sawyer and Investigations Law Group for additional information about the investigation but did not receive responses. Mann also did not respond to a request for comment.

5. Alpine Bank announces senior leadership changes

Alpine Bank is making changes to its senior leadership, with longtime executive Jay Rickstrew taking over as president and Glen Jammaron narrowing his focus to the bank’s long-term direction.

Jammaron is stepping down as president while remaining CEO and chairman. The changes took effect Sept. 10.

Rickstrew, who previously served as Alpine Bank’s chief retail officer, will oversee the bank’s day-to-day operations and financial performance. Jammaron will focus more on long-term planning, culture, brand and values.
