Wednesday letters: Border solutions, hopefully an honest mistake and 27th Street underpass notifications

Concrete solutions needed on the border

What governor Greg Abbot is doing by busing migrants to cities such as New York, Denver, Chicago, Seattle and other cities nationwide is not cruel, but necessary. For far too long we’ve been watching from afar and saying “Bless their hearts.”

We had no idea what it was really like for Texas to take care of all these people because if you’re not there is doesn’t affect you. So far in the last three years there has been 3.8 million migrants enter the U.S and most through Texas. Can you imagine if 100,000 migrants entered the valley and pitched a tent?

I think it’s time for people to educate themselves and learn that open borders is not the answer. The people coming have no idea what they will do once here. They have no homes, no money, no food, no clothes, and no jobs. We cannot take care of our homeless population as it is, yet some people want open borders.

We now have 3.8 million more homeless people in this country and no answers. This cannot continue and we need these boneheads that we elect to actually do their jobs work together and find solutions.

An Honest Mistake or Making a Really Bad Choice

I walked out of the Ski Sunlight Lodge after lunch last Friday Jan. 19th, my Armada Tracer 108 skis were gone.  I had left them in the ski rack right in front of the lodge.  I was hoping that maybe someone took them by mistake.  Most times in life if you make a really bad decision you don’t get a second chance.  Please drop off my skis at the Ski Sunlight Shop here in Glenwood or go see the new folks at Blue Sky Ski Rental.  No questions asked, just drop them off and do the right thing.  Make the right choice.  Our great local ski community here in the valley deserves better.

How about more notice on lane closures through 27th Street construction zone?

Concerning 27th Street construction traffic snarls, I think I’ve figured out why upvalley and downvalley traffic is often reduced to one lane, meaning right-lane motorists must “zipper” their way into the left lane. Here is what I think happens.

Every morning, the construction supervisor comes out to 27th Street and makes one of three  decisions: Leave all four lanes open, reduce upvalley traffic to one lane, or reduce downvalley traffic to one lane at the 27th Street intersection. In lieu of any regular newspaper notices from CDOT or RFTA on how the supervisor makes this decision is open to conjecture.

But ya know, CDOT or RFTA could send out regular press releases to local newspapers and other news outlets, telling the taxpaying public the status of 27th Street traffic. And, they could also run periodic ads in the GPI updating the taxpaying public on 27th Street traffic flow.

I’m sorta surprised CDOT or RFTA isn’t already doing this.
