Trump deserves our support

My husband and I are Trump supporters and proud of it but I am seeing so much negativity and down right nastiness about this man in letters as well as in conversations. Have we forgotten how much better we are than that? 

We have to look at our quality of life, our country’s security, the respect of our laws and are they being upheld. Everything is up double digits from everyday things like food, fuel to unemployment. Our borders are nonexistent. Our rights and laws are being trampled on, laughed at. 

Trump may be unorthodox, a bit of a narcissist and even his own worst enemy but he is real. Harris is as phony as they come and her only accomplishment is to fail at everything she been in charge of, she is relishing in the spotlight knowing she is the Democrats’ last-ditch effort candidate they had to choose from and the Trump haters have thrown everything at her just to assure Trump won’t serve again not because Harris will serve this country better.

Put aside your personal views of these two people running for the highest office, the most important position in our country. This country is in dire need of strong leadership. Look at each of their accomplishments or slack off while in serving public office. 

Harris is going to do all these wonderful things and move us forward yet she’s been absent for the last 3 1/2 years. Ask yourselves why hasn’t she done any of these great things for us in her time as VP, a position she’s still getting paid to do and yes still absent from. My husband and I fly our 12×18 Trump flag proudly over Colorado Highway 82 to show our support.

More taxes and more consultants

As we head towards a November vote on whether to raise the sales tax in Glenwood Springs, consider that the council recently approved the updated Energy and Climate Action Plan. Two consultants and 16 months later, we got a 58-page report… I wonder what that cost us. A report that fails to address the South Canyon Landfill which accounts for 90% of Glenwood’s emissions. Peppered throughout are comments like ‘secure new revenue’ for this, ‘ban’ that, and of course… numerous recommendations to keep working with (paying) the consultants. Everyone should go read the report for themselves, but to me, it’s basically a recipe for a no-benefit money grab. High cost, low impact, more taxes. That’s the summary.

No, I will not be voting for an increase in the sales tax. There is plenty of ‘waste management’ work to be done around how we are spending current revenues.

Elect Garfield County commissioners who respect libraries

A small fringe group is pushing for censorship in Garfield County’s libraries – and I’m appalled that some current elected officials have jumped on the bandwagon! In light of their current election bids, please consider the following:

At a commission meeting, would-be book banners attacked the highly respected American Library Association, claiming it has a “climate agenda” and “all the Marxist agendas.” Commissioner Mike Samson responded, “You have your facts down. May God bless you for saying what you said today.” The three commissioners then seized power over the selection of Library Trustees. 

State Senator Perry Will (now running for County Commission) voted AGAINST a common-sense proposed state law to protect libraries from partisan book-banning battles. The law PASSED. It requires that libraries establish and follow professional standards for deciding what books should be in collections. Why would Will have opposed this new law?

If you want to ensure that the Commission does not fill the Library Board of Trustees and other boards with people who would limit our reading and more of our personal choices, elect Caitlin Carey and Steven Arauza to the Garfield County Commission. Carey and Arauza believe that government officials should not be in the business of telling people what they can and cannot read. And they will propose and support other measures that encourage a civil society.

Vote for Carey and Arauza this November.
