Ray K. Erku became The Aspen Times’ editor in December 2023. Before graduating from Minnesota State University, Mankato with degrees in mass media/journalism and creative writing, the Minneapolis native worked as an arts and entertainment reporter and editor for his college newspaper, the MSU Reporter. He also freelanced for the Mankato Free Press during and after graduation.
Erku then spent the next decade in newsrooms across the rural West, including South Dakota, Wyoming and eventually Colorado. He’s covered everything from courts and local government to prep sports and county fairs. Ever since Erku was reintroduced to the sublimity of snowboarding in the Roaring Fork Valley, he is now forever smitten by Aspen and the surreal lifestyle it generously offers on a daily basis.
