What: Visit the Carbondale Arts Gallery and explore three new exhibitions that creatively document landscapes, emotions and touch: “Recording Time (with Scraps and Words)” by Courtney Kenny, “Fluid Landscapes” by Michael Kinsley, and “Intimate. Immensity,” by Laura Dortmans.

Mountain Valley Developmental Services Sneaker Drive

What: Mountain Valley Developmental Services is raising money for its day programs in Glenwood Springs, Silt and Minturn through an athletic shoe drive fundraiser. MVDS will earn money based on how many pairs of used, gently worn and new sneakers are collected from Friday, Oct. 10 to Nov. 11. Through the sneaker recycling organization GotSneakers, sneakers not approved for resale will be recycled.

Octoberfest

What: Head to the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park for a weekend of fun, complete with favorite Bavarian bites and sweets, live tunes by an oompah band and crowd-favorite contests including stein-holding and hammerschlagen. 

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, 51000 Two Rivers Plaza Road, Glenwood Springs.

The Kirstie Ennis Foundation’s Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Fundraiser

What: Enjoy live music, food, drinks and auctions at the Glenwood Springs’ Two Rivers Park. Supporting The Kirstie Ennis Foundation, the fundraiser will feature testimonials from TKEF alumni and celebrate yet another year of community support in the valley.

When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Two Rivers Park, 740 Devereux Road, Glenwood Springs

How much: $25 admission. Food and drinks can be purchased separately. 

Laugh Your Tail Off 2025

What: Join the Journey Home Animal Care Center at its biggest — and funniest — fundraising event of the year. Enjoy food and drinks from Miner’s Claim and participate in a silent and live auction. Featuring live comedy from special guest Mike Winfield, the fundraiser supports care for animals in western Garfield County. Some adoptable animals will even be in attendance. 

When: 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11

Where: Atlantic Aviation Hangar, Rifle Airport, 375 County Road 352, Rifle

Artful Adventures

What: Bring your child to the Glenwood Springs Community Art Center for creative adventures each early release Wednesday. Children ages 11 to 17 can learn new techniques, build their artistic skills and explore new materials throughout the 11 session program. 

When: 2:30-4:30 p.m. every Wednesday until Dec. 17, except for Nov. 26. 

Where: Community Art Center, 601 E. Sixth St., Glenwood Springs

How much: $220 for all 11 classes. 

Karaoke Night

What: Head to the Black Nugget for a weekly karaoke night every Wednesday. Sip a crafted cocktail and enjoy the show, or grab the professional microphone and take a turn in the spotlight. 

When: 9-11:45 p.m. every Wednesday 

Where: The Black Nugget, 403 Main St., Carbondale

Third Thursday on Third

What: Head to Downtown Rifle for the last Third Thursday on Third of the year. The celebration features a different theme each month — October’s is Halloween — as well as games, live music and of course, the town’s restaurants and shops. 

When: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16

An Evening of Opera

What: Symphony in the Valley presents “An Evening of Opera.” Hear selections from numerous operas — including Bizet’s “Carmen” — and enjoy arias sung live by Sharon Anderson Young, Heidi Rovig, Nattia Trout and Elizabeth Noble. 

When/Where: 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, Ute Theater and Events Center, 132 E. Fourth St., Rifle

7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, Glenwood Springs High School, 1521 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs 

How much: $23 for general admission, $17 for seniors and children 12-18, $6 for 12 and under. Purchase tickets at sitv.org.
