The Bureau of Land Management’s Grand Junction Field Office has opened 14 miles of travel routes in Garfield County, expanding access from administrative use only to all modes of travel, according to a news release.

The newly opened routes are in the area of Garfield County Road 200 near De Beque.

“We’re excited for the public to have access to these travel routes,” Grand Junction Field Manager Stacey Colón said in the release. “We urge the public to be aware of and respect private property boundaries.”

The decision follows agreements with private landowners and newly available public access across private property, in line with the Grand Junction Field Office Travel Management Plan.

Some of the routes are described as very technical, with limited turnaround opportunities. The BLM advises visitors to be aware of their vehicle limits, pack food and water, and follow responsible recreation guidelines, including the Stay the Trail program at staythetrail.org and Leave No Trace principles at lnt.org/why/7-principles.
