September First Friday

What: Bonedale Flea Market. The Thunder River Theatre Company and Elvecino Shows present First Friday Comedy by bringing together an incredible lineup of talented local comedians.

Author Talk and Book Signing with Laura Resau

What: Laura Resau is the author of The River Muse, The Alchemy of Flowers, and eleven acclaimed books for young people. Her books have won five Colorado Book Awards and spots on “best-of” booklists from Oprah, the American Library Association, and more. Resau is trilingual, lived in Provence and Oaxaca, and studied cultural anthropology and languages. She teaches graduate creative writing at Western Colorado University. She writes in her cozy vintage trailer in Fort Collins where she lives with her rock-hound husband, musician son, wild husky, and a hundred house plants. 9/11 Day of Service

What: High Country Volunteers is holding a day of service where volunteers will work to create 911 children’s activity play kits that will be delivered to hospitals around the country in collaboration with Project Sunshine. The materials spark joy and provide therapeutic value to the physical and emotional healing process. Bags will be packed assembly-style seated at tables so people of all ages can work together. 

When: 4:15-5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11

Where: Colorado Mountain College, Glenwood Center, 1402 Blake Ave., Glenwood Springs

The Jacob Jolliff Band 

What: Jacob Jolliff is one of the world’s premier contemporary mandolinists. The Jacob Jolliff Band is one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groups on the scene today. They’ve released three albums, the most recent of which, “Instrumentals, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries,” dropped in May 2024. The band plays a combination of complex original instrumental music and vocal repertoire that spans from trad bluegrass to unlikely pop covers.

Every Brilliant Thing

What: From Thunder River Theatre Company comes “Every Brilliant Thing”, a story that opens with a mother’s suicide attempt and her seven-year-old’s subsequent search to understand it and help lift her depression by documenting the joys all around them. Starting with the basics, such as ice cream and the color yellow, the list is maintained throughout their lifetime and highlights the narrator’s ever-changing view of what is beautiful in the world as they reach adulthood.

Kiwanis 71st Annual Pancake Breakfast

What: Join the Kiwanis Club for its 71st Annual Pancake Breakfast. Bring the whole family and enjoy a delicious breakfast featuring pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and juice along with live local music, free children’s books and family games. 

When: 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12
