Garfield Re-2 School District Performance Frameworks show four consecutive years of steady growth in both academic achievement and student progress.  Garfield Re-2 is proud to earn the second-highest overall rating as an accredited school district, with 7 out of 10 schools achieving the second-highest rating on their School Performance Frameworks. The district’s overall score rose to 56.9 points, up from 51 in 2022, signaling encouraging momentum while leaving room for continued improvement.

These results reflect growth trends that outpaced the state in key areas. For example, high school English language arts scores grew by 4 percentage points, compared to a 1-point increase statewide. Elementary and middle school math scores rose by 4 points, double the statewide average increase. While achievement remains an important focus, the most notable progress is reflected in growth. One school increased its academic growth score by 18 points, an encouraging sign of progress and a foundation for continued improvement.

While most schools are performing at high levels, the district continues to provide targeted support for schools identified for Improvement or Turnaround. With the benefit of grant funding, these efforts include expanded instructional coaching, intervention programs, and professional learning for staff—ensuring resources are directed where they are needed most.

“These results reflect the dedication of our teachers, staff, and students,” said Superintendent Kirk Banghart. “We celebrate the gains while also focusing on the schools where targeted supports are in place to ensure continued progress.”

As the Colorado Department of Education shared in its Aug. 21 release, statewide results show steady gains. Within that context, Garfield Re-2 is proud to demonstrate momentum that reflects both local effort and statewide recovery, while recognizing there is still important work ahead to sustain and build on this progress.

School Performance Frameworks combine achievement, growth, and readiness indicators to assign school plan types and district accreditation. CMAS and PSAT/SAT results feed into those ratings, providing the data foundation. All ratings remain preliminary until finalized by the State Board later this fall.
