Garfield School District Re-2 is accepting nominations for two school board seats ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 4, biennial school election.

Director District A, currently vacant following the resignation of former board president Britton Fletchall, and Director District E, currently held by Scott Bolitho, will be on the ballot. Both seats carry four-year terms.

District A is generally described as Rifle west of Whiteriver Avenue and U.S. Highway 13, including the neighborhoods of Palomino Park, Knollridge, Shetland Acres, Fairview Heights, Rimrock, Willow Ranch, Park Avenue, Western Heights, Pioneer Mesa and Kings Crown. District E includes the city limits of New Castle along with rural areas to the northeast and southeast.

Fletchall, who represented District A since 2021 and became board president in December 2023, resigned June 20, citing business growth and increased travel. The board is scheduled to appoint a temporary replacement Aug. 13 from two applicants, Darlane Evans and Megan Heil. That appointee will serve until the November election.

To qualify, candidates must have lived in the district for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election and reside in the director district they seek to represent. Candidates with convictions for sexual offenses against a child are ineligible.

Nomination petitions, which require at least 50 signatures from eligible electors registered to vote in the Nov. 4 election, will be available beginning Aug. 6 at the district office, 839 Whiteriver Ave. in Rifle. Petitions may be picked up from Sharon Donohoue between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Completed petitions must be returned to Donohoue no later than noon Aug. 29.

For more information on district boundaries, visit the School Board section of the Garfield Re-2 website at http://www.garfieldre2.net or call Donohoue at 970-665-7605.
