The Glenwood Springs Historical Society has secured its full $120,000 allocation from the city for 2025 after successfully raising $40,000 in community donations and program revenue — meeting the required funding match just five months into the year.
“This milestone reflects the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of the community,” Treasurer Kevin Gibson said in a news release. “We’re proud to have met the requirement so quickly and grateful that city leaders continue to value the society’s work.”
The funding helps cover essential operational costs at the Frontier Historical Museum, 1001 Colorado Ave., including utilities, insurance, maintenance and staffing for a full-time executive director and part-time archivist. It also supports the professional care and display of the society’s growing archive and historic collection.
Since January, the nonprofit has hosted a monthly speaker series, led public tours of the Shoshone Hydroelectric Plant and published a newly expanded historic walking tour guide — available for free at the Frontier Museum, downtown hotels and other locations — that highlights Glenwood Springs’ historic homes and architecture.
The historical society is now exploring opportunities to expand its reach through satellite museum spaces, working with new partners to bring local history to more residents and visitors.
The group’s premier annual event, the Ghost Walk, returns in October at Glenwood’s historic Linwood Cemetery and features theatrical portrayals of notable local figures. Sponsorships for the 2025 Ghost Walk are still available by emailing director@rof.net. Donations to the 501(c)(3) nonprofit can be made at GlenwoodHistory.com.
