The third annual Halloween Hustle for Charity will be held on Sunday, October 19, with a variety of running and walking distances to choose from.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the Advocate Safehouse Project in Glenwood Springs. The Halloween Hustle races will take place primarily on the Rio Grande trail and the Midland Loop with distances of 10k (6.2 miles), 5.5k (3.4 miles), and a 1.5k (1 mile) Trick or Treat Fun Run, which is specifically designed as a walk for children and parents.

Awards will be given to the top finishers in the 10k and 5.5k races, and there will be plenty of festivities following the race to keep the kids and adults in the Halloween spirit. Participants will be treated to a post-race barbecue, raffle, and prizes for the best Halloween costumes.

October is national domestic violence awareness month and all proceeds from the race will go toward helping local families have a safe place to stay, restful nights and a 24-hour support line.

The Halloween Hustle, which will begin at 9:30 a.m., starts and finishes in front of the Glenwood Elementary School located at 915 School St. The cost for pre-registration is $35 and can be done at the Halloween Hustle for Charity website. Race day registration is $40 with cash and Venmo accepted.

Run/Walk For Their Lives

The day before the Halloween Hustle on Saturday, October 18, the 18th annual Run/Walk for Their Lives 5k is on tap at the Stoney Ridge Park in Silt. The cost for the run is $25 with all proceeds going to the Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation in Silt. This organization has been going strong for over four decades now, and serves to rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned wildlife and provide educational programs related to wildlife and the environment.

You can pre-register at psswf.org/events or by calling 970-896-6895. There will be race morning registration available also. The Run/Walk for Their Lives is the ninth race in Rifle Recreation’s EcoPoint 5k Race Series.
