Highway 82 reopens in Carbondale following small fires in median
Highway 82 has reopened in both directions between mile markers 10 and 11 in Carbondale on Monday afternoon after three small fires broke out in the median, according to a notification from the Garfield County Emergency Alert System.
Carbondale Rural and Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Jenny Cutright said crews quickly contained one of the fires and were working on the others with assistance from Roaring Fork Fire Rescue and Glenwood Springs Fire Department under mutual aid.
“It’s not something to be extremely concerned about,” Cutright said as fire crews extinguished the fires. “We’ve got apparatus on scene, and they’re working to get the fires under control.”
Cutright said the closure was precautionary while crews operated in the area and expected it would not last long.
