Fire crews are working to contain a fast-moving wildfire that broke out Sunday morning in the Missouri Heights area, prompting evacuations and threatening nearby structures.

The Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was dispatched to the scene at 11:04 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, crews found an active fire burning through grass, pinyon, juniper and sage, with a rapid rate of spread.

Ground crews immediately began suppression efforts, supported by aerial resources.

As of 4:50 p.m. Sunday, the fire was estimated at 115 acres with 0% containment. While no homes have been lost, structures remain threatened. Fire officials said the rate of spread has slowed due to coordinated work by both air and ground teams.

Evacuation orders are in place for the Panorama Subdivision, the Ranch at Coulter Creek, and the area east of County Road 100 to Upper Cattle Creek Road. Roaring Fork High School has been designated as an evacuation shelter. Roads in the area are closed to ensure firefighter safety.

Multiple agencies are assisting in the firefighting efforts.
