Allan James Cunningham, age 80, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado passed away on April 23, 2025, at his home. Born on December 4, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late James and Grace Cunningham.
Allan Cunningham graduated from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1966. Allan was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps on December 1, 1969. He served in Vietnam with India Co, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines and was the recipient of multiple awards including the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on July 1, 1971. Allan worked for Harriman Construction as a superintendent and project manager in Basalt, CO for 33 years. He was married to Judy Cunningham till her passing on July 10th, 1995. He dedicated his life to family and community.
Allan found joy in lifelong learning and reading books. He enjoyed golfing, swimming, watching sports and collecting coins. He also enjoyed volunteering his time to helping others. He was highly involved with the non-profit Haiti School Project, which built schools in Haiti. He created a unique set of values and stuck to them, those values included Buddhist teachings, dedication to family, and volunteering his time to those in need.
Allan James Cunningham is survived by his son Ian James Cunningham, daughter Ambere Grace Cunningham, grandson James Allan Cunningham, two siblings Janet Muse, and Donald Cunningham.
Memorial service details will be determined at a future time. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mountain Valley Developmental Services at http://www.mtnvalley.org in honor of Allan James Cunningham.
Allan James Cunningham will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, service, and dedication to his family and friends will live on in the hearts of the lives he touched.
