Art Armijo was born on September 14, 1939, in the mining town of Rouse, Colorado, to Rafael Joseph and Carmelita Quintana Armijo. He went to be with the Lord in the early hours of July 22, 2025, in Victoria, Canada.
Art served in the Navy on the aircraft carrier, USS Ranger for 4 years. This allowed him to travel and see the world while serving his Country. He was always a very proud veteran and an American.
After Art was discharged he moved to Southern California in the Orange County Area and proceeded to start his own business in the import/export of electronic chips. It was here that he bought his first boat and continued his love of the ocean. He, also, married and had two children, one daughter, Hollee, and one son, Curtis.
In the late 80’s he sold the business and moved back to Colorado. While at a Christmas party he met his wife of 33 years, LaPriel McPherson. They both loved the lifestyle that Western Colorado offered and took full advantage of it. Some of their favorite things to do is ride horses in the high country, move cows or go to the family cabin on the White River. Art, also, became a father figure to LaPriel’s daughter, Andrea. She loved him dearly and he loved her.
Art didn’t know a stranger which served him well in all his business ventures. He liked people, a good joke, telling or hearing a good story and sharing a meal with his family and friends.
A year ago Art had a medical emergency that almost took his life. It was the prayers of his church, family and friends that enabled him to go home and savor the life he had here in Colorado. He was also able to go out one more time on the ocean before the Lord called him home.
Art is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Florine Maldonado, and Betty Guillen. His brother, Tino, died a week after him on 7/29/25. Art is survived by his wife, LaPriel, his daughters Andrea (Stacie), Hollee (Dominic), his son, Curtis, his brother, Ralph Armijo, his sister, Tillie Lira, grandchildren, Allianna, Isabella, Zack, Jordan and Shane, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to RIDE (Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians) 2804 County Road 250, Silt, CO 81652.
