Debbie Young, 63, passed away on September 28, 2026, in New Castle, CO.

Debbie was a talented, creative, and generous woman who made a career out of creating beautiful spaces and a life out of caring for the people around her. A self-taught kitchen designer, she completed many beautiful projects throughout the valley. She was an excellent cook, known for bringing homemade meals and desserts to neighbors and friends.

A gifted seamstress, she made her own homecoming dress at Basalt High School, her wedding dress, and countless Halloween costumes. She was a regular at consignment shops, where she could always find a unique gift or piece of home decor.

Debbie enjoyed trips to Sedona, cruises with her husband Calvin, rafting, ATVing, swimming in the ocean, and soaking in the hot springs. She loved her home state of California and cherished visits to Mexico with her daughter. She was also an avid walker, often making the trip to the fish hatchery in Glenwood or along the Roaring Fork River.

Most of all, Debbie loved her family. She supported her children through countless ski trips, soccer, and volleyball games and delighted in spoiling her grandchildren with thoughtful gifts, good food, and time together. She was a wonderful friend: kind, loving, complimentary, generous, and always ready with a good sense of humor.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Calvin Amichaux; Calvin’s daughter, Shelbi, her husband, Ben, and their children, Nash and Bodie; her son, Doug Dunn, and his children, Carter and Payten; her daughter, Heather Smyth, and her husband, Justin; her brother, Jason; and her mother, Suzanne Hutchins. She was preceded in death by her father, George.

Debbie loved the saying, “There’s no place like home.” We know she has now found peace in her ruby slippers.
