Peggy Ann Tibbetts, 72, of Silt, Colorado, passed away at home of natural causes on August 21, 2025. Born on May 23, 1953, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, Peggy brought a fierce spirit and unwavering integrity to every aspect of her life.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Tod Tibbetts, her daughter, Ema Lia Thornton, sister Linda Price, and grandchildren Spencer and Henrik Kwiatkowski. She was more than family to many—she was a loyal friend and an inspiring community member.
A tireless advocate for the land she loved, Peggy was renowned for her dedication to protecting this valley’s environment. Through her influential writing on her blog *From the Styx*, she gave voice to the voiceless, held the powerful accountable, and illuminated the issues others might have overlooked. She showed that one courageous voice could truly make a difference.
Peggy’s commitment extended to her beloved West Elk Trails, where her weekly trail updates informed and inspired many. Peggy’s passion, courage, and kindness will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at Veterans Park in Silt, CO, with a service at 1:00 p.m. and a reception from 2:00–4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. All are welcome.
