Obituary: Shirley Ann LeMoine
September 9, 1941 – October 12, 2026
Shirley LeMoine (née Heck) a nature-loving, generous-hearted woman, has died aged 85. She grew up in West Virginia with her six siblings and parents, then moved to Ohio, where she graduated from Kent State University.
After graduating, she moved to her lifelong love: Rifle, Colorado. She and her then husband bought a property up Rifle Creek and built a house that became a home for her children and a sanctuary to her later in life. A talented naturalist, she could reliably identify all the native birds, and most plants, while recounting interesting facts about their behavior or ecology. Anyone that knew her well knew exactly where that golden eagle nest was!
A lifelong educator, she taught math and science, eventually spearheading the Talented and Gifted program for the Rifle school district. She later took her love of teaching into Rifle Methodist Church’s Sunday school–a church she was a staunch supporter of.
Known for her fiery opinions and firm convictions, she will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her and were touched by her.
