May 8, 1971 – February 1, 2024

Steven Michael (Steve) Posusta, 52, devoted father, husband, uncle, son, and brother, passed away suddenly on February 1, 2024. He was born to Katherine Bostian and Stanley Posusta on May 8, 1971, in Marshalltown, IA.

Steve spent his early life in Toledo, IA exploring the outdoors with his sister, Laura, during his childhood on a farm where his family lived. He was fortunate to spend his youth with his grandparents and a large family of uncles, aunts, and cousins, which fostered his commitment to family and community.

Steve and his family moved to Basalt in 1982. Steve graduated from Basalt High School in 1989 where he was a standout athlete and scholar. He then ventured to California and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from UCLA in 1993. He returned to Colorado to earn his MA from CU Boulder.

While at UCLA, Steve took a screenwriting class which piqued his interest in the craft. Through another workshop in Colorado, he met and collaborated with fellow screenwriters whose script became the feature-length film Raising the Stakes in 1999. This was a proud moment for Steve!

Professionally, Steve was a highly skilled technical writer, editor, and manager. In the 1990s he began his first career in technology at Sun Microsystems in Broomfield. He met his future wife, Andrea, there and they married in 2007 in Santa Fe, NM. They built their life together in Lafayette, CO and shared the gift of raising their son, Victor.

Steve loved to learn new things and had a natural curiosity. The fact that he was an avid reader made him a warm conversationalist who could talk to anyone about anything. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His generosity, warmth, humor, wit, and musical talents will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all the lives he touched.

Steve is survived by his parents, Kathi and Stan, and his sister, Laura (Jarret) Sharp. His legacy is carried on by his loving wife Andrea Tringo and his son Victor; his nieces, Maya, Aislin, and Talia; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
