A scheduled eastbound closure on Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon to clean up debris following a semi-truck rollover was postponed due to a rockslide along the recommended northern detour route on US Highway 40 near Steamboat Springs on Wednesday, according to a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Facebook post.

The closure was initially planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday to allow crews to clean up debris after a semi-truck traveling westbound crashed through a guardrail and rolled into the eastbound lane Tuesday morning. The accident, which occurred near Exit 122 in Glenwood Springs, briefly shut down both directions of the canyon but kept eastbound lanes closed for more than 12 hours.

CDOT Regional Communications Manager Lisa Schwantes said the planned closure was delayed due to the rockslide on Highway 40 between County Roads 68 and 50 in Steamboat Springs. A new closure date has not yet been set.

CDOT will provide updates to the public once the work and closure are rescheduled.
