Three spot fires reported in Glenwood Canyon

Update 6:05 p.m.: The two reported fires at mile markers 119.5 and 123.2 have been contained. The fire at mile marker 123.4 is more than 50% contained.
Command has been turned over to the U.S. Forest Service – White River National Forest, and crews will remain on scene and continue working the fires.

Glenwood Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported brush fire in Glenwood Canyon around 3 p.m. Thursday. Reports indicate the fire is located on the south side of the river near mile marker 119.5 eastbound on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon.
After dispatch, crews located two more small brush fires adjacent to the railroad tracks. A Type 3 helicopter has been requested to assist with water bucket drops. The largest reported fire is roughly 20 by 40 feet.
The right lane of eastbound I-70 has been closed in the area, while motorists are encouraged to use caution, reduce speeds and watch for emergency personnel.
