Rifle has a free tow program for those who qualify

The City of Rifle is offering to tow one non-compliant vehicle from your property for free from now until Oct. 31, 2024, according to a press release. This program is available for properties within the city and it’s an effort to clean up the community.

Sec. 8-2-30 states: it is unlawful for any person who is the owner of any vehicle or any person who is in charge of control of any property within the city, whether owner, tenant, occupant, lessee or otherwise, to knowingly permit or allow a wrecked, inoperable, unlicensed or discarded vehicle to remain on such property longer than 30 days; provided, however, that this subsection shall not apply with regard to a vehicle in an enclosed building; a vehicle on the premises of a business enterprise operated in a lawful place and manner when necessary to the operation of such business enterprise; or a vehicle in a lawful place and manner when necessary to the operation of such business enterprises; or a vehicle in an appropriate storage place or depository maintained for impounded vehicles by the city.

A property owner/lessee/occupant may be fined up to $25 a day for leaving an inoperable vehicle on private property after 30 days.
