Roaring Fork School District receives higher rating in preliminary state performance data

The Roaring Fork School District received an upgraded rating in preliminary performance data released Wednesday by the Colorado Department of Education.
The district earned an “accredited” rating, up from “accredited with improvement plan” in 2024. According to a news release from the school district, nine schools maintained their “performance” rating while three improved over last year’s scores.
“We continue to see the results of steady, systemic improvement in student academic growth and achievement and overall school success,” Superintendent Anna Cole said in the release. “This is a testament to the hard work of students, teachers, staff, families and our partners as we drive forward our strategic plan.”
The state’s performance frameworks measure districts and schools on academic achievement, academic growth, and postsecondary and workforce readiness. Ratings are based on overall and student subgroup performance across those indicators.
Cole said the district is “leveraging a data culture, a sense of urgency, and a strong belief that our students, staff, families, and schools are capable of the ambitious goals we’ve set.” She added that while gaps remain between student subgroups, the district is making “focused, steady progress” toward closing them.
Highlights of the preliminary data include Glenwood Springs Middle School, Riverview School and Basalt Middle School improving from “improvement” to “performance.” Basalt Elementary also increased its “performance” rating by more than 12 percentage points.
After climbing from “turnaround” in 2023 to “improvement” in 2024, Glenwood Springs Elementary dropped to “priority improvement” this year.
“It is especially exciting to see that nearly all of our schools have a ‘performance’ rating,” Assistant Superintendent Stacey M. Park said in the release. “It is a testament to strong leadership, staff collaboration, high expectations for all students, and a focus on learning and growth.”
Preliminary frameworks for Roaring Fork schools are posted at cde.state.co.us. Final ratings will be released after the State Board of Education meets in December 2025.
