Roaring Fork School District releases call for nominations for board of education seats

The Roaring Fork School District issued a call for nominations Wednesday for district representatives ahead of the November school board election, according to a news release from the district.
Two seats will be up for election to four-year terms during the regular biennial school election this November. The seats represent Districts A and E, currently held by Kenny Teitler and Kathryn Kuhlenberg, who are both nearing the end of their terms.
According to RFSD Designated Election Official Jonathan Landon, neither Teitler or Kuhlenberg have announced their decisions for the upcoming elections.
“The Roaring Fork School District in the Counties of Eagle, Garfield, and Pitkin, in the State of Colorado, calls for nomination of candidates for school directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025,” the release reads.
The two seats available — District A, and District E — use Colorado Highway 82 as a border between the two regions. The two areas encompass much of the upper Roaring Fork Valley, as District A encompasses southern Carbondale and much of the lower Mount Sopris area, while District E takes Missouri Heights and areas north of Highway 82.
To be qualified to run for the open seats, candidates must be a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and a resident of the specific district in which they will represent. Candidates are ineligible to run for school director if they have been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.
Those who wish to become a candidate must file a written notice of intent and obtain a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors.
Completed petitions must be submitted in person to RFSD Designated Election Official Jonathan Landon no later than 3:30 p.m. August 29, at the Roaring Fork School District office, 400 Sopris Ave., Carbondale.
Names of hopeful candidates are not public information until after the written notice and nomination petition are submitted and notarized. The names of candidates will be published on rfschools.com no later than Sept. 5.
Petitions may be obtained by contacting Landon via email at jlandon@rfschools.com or (970) 384-6009. Spanish speakers can contact Cristina Vargas at cvargas@rfschools.com or (970) 384-6026.
The school district provides a map of the districts on rfschools.com and an interactive map, where specific addresses can be entered.
