U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet has a double-digit lead over his key Democratic opponent, Attorney General Phil Weiser, in the race to become Colorado’s next governor, according to a new poll.
A survey released on Monday of 600 likely voters in the June 2026 primary found that Bennet holds a 31-point advantage over Weiser, with a 4% margin of error in either direction. The survey was conducted by Global Strategy Group, a national polling firm that has done past surveys in Colorado.
The winner of the June Democratic primary is expected to prevail over the Republican nominee in the November 2026 gubernatorial election. Colorado’s deep-blue electorate hasn’t elected a Republican governor since Bill Owens in 2002.
The survey found Bennet has greater name recognition and favorability compared to Weiser. Seventy-four percent of respondents gave Bennet a favorable rating compared to 45% for Weiser.
The poll also included incumbent Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, who has a 79% favorability rating. Polis is term-limited and cannot seek reelection. Polis won the election in 2018 by more than 10 percentage points and re-election in 2022 by nearly 20 percentage points.
The poll shows Bennet dominating amongst key voting blocs. Sixty-four percent of voters aged 55 or older rated Bennet favorably compared to 23% for Wesier, while 63% of Hispanic voters rated Bennet favorably compared to 15% for Wesier.
Overall, the poll found Bennet winning over 53% of likely voters compared to Weiser’s 22%, with 25% of voters undecided.
“While some of this margin is due to his name ID advantage, Bennet also converts 61% of the voters who can ID him into votes,” the survey report states. “By comparison, Weiser converts 42% of the voters who can ID him into votes.”
Bennet has served in the U.S. Senate since 2009 and announced his bid for Colorado governor in April. Weiser was elected Colorado attorney general in 2018 and announced his campaign for governor in January.
