From exploring family histories to meeting firetrucks and tractors up close, Garfield County Libraries are offering a variety of programs in the coming weeks.
The Glenwood Springs Branch Library hosts a Genealogy Group from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month. Participants can work to solve family mysteries, share research tips and uncover stories from the past. For details, call 970-945-5958.
The Parachute Branch Library is launching the Death Cafe, a new discussion series where patrons can talk about death without judgment. There is no agenda or objective, just an open space to share thoughts, reflect and listen. Meetings are 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. The sessions are not intended for grief support or counseling. Adults only. For details, call 970-285-9870.
The Carbondale Branch Library invites kids — and kids at heart — to explore a variety of large trucks with cool attachments and working vehicles and meet the people who drive them from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9. The first hour will be sensory-friendly, free of horns and sirens. For more information, call 970-963-2889.
To wrap up the Summer Reading program, Garfield County Libraries will host performances by Rocky Mountain Puppets. Professional ventriloquist Meghan Casey will bring her cast of puppet friends on an adventure through a magical kaleidoscope with fractured prisms and alternate dimensions.
The performances are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, Aug. 5: 1 p.m. at Glenwood Springs, 4 p.m. at Carbondale
- Wednesday, Aug. 6: 11 a.m. at New Castle, 2 p.m. at Silt
- Thursday, Aug. 7: 11 a.m. at Parachute, 2 p.m. at Rifle
