Wednesday letters: Hurd’s priorities and bombing Iran

Hurd is serving the wealthy, not his constituents
Dear fellow CO District 3 voters,
I want to bring to your attention the fact that our Rep. Jeff Hurd, who voted to take away the Medicaid and SNAP benefits of many in our district in order to give tax cuts to billionaires and corporations, is once again spending his time looking out for the wealthy and powerful.
The most recent bill he sponsored is the Holy Sovereignty Protection Act, which will prevent an American Pope from having their citizenship revoked while serving in the Vatican and make him fully exempt from paying taxes on his earnings. Now I am a Christian pastor, and I kind of like this new Pope — I grew up in Chicago, and he seems to care for the poor and marginalized, something Jesus told us all to do.
But unless our current president is planning on revoking the Pope’s U.S. citizenship (okay, anything is possible with this president, since he is trying to deny all of us born in the USA our constitutional birthright), I doubt the Pope’s citizenship is under any real threat. In addition, the Pope works for one of the wealthiest organizations in the world, is paid well, and has more benefits than 99.9% of the voters in District 3.
I would think Rep. Hurd would be concerned for the regular folks who put him in office, making sure there are safety nets like Medicaid and SNAP, and making sure Medicare and Social Security were funded beyond 2034. Instead, he is looking out for a guy from Chicago. Clearly, this is an attempt to convince us he’s really a good guy, who wants to stand up for Christian leaders.
See this for what it is. Open your eyes, because Jeff Hurd is showing us who he is and who he really thinks he is serving. Sadly, it is not you or me. Don’t forget who he is putting first when the 2026 November election rolls around. We have to hold our elected representatives accountable. They work for us!

Unprovoked bombing of Iran is unacceptable
At the behest of Israel, our country recently bombed Iran with 2,000-pound bombs. Iran has done nothing to the U.S. This attack was not authorized by our Congress.
As a caller said on C-SPAN this morning, not one word has been said about Iranian people who were killed or injured.
This incident is unacceptable in every way. Fire Trump.
