Craig William Snow, a beloved husband, father, and active community member, peacefully died on January 3, 2024, at his home in New Castle, Colorado, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 21, 1951, in Sibley, Iowa, to Morris “Bud” Snow and Marjorie (nee South) Snow.

Craig had an unwavering commitment to service, both professionally and within his community. After attending Sibley High School, he pursued his passion for helping others by studying mortuary science at Mount Hood Community College. Craig’s dedication earned him the unanimous vote for the Helping Hand Award from his fellow students. He later owned Walton Funeral Home before embarking on a new chapter in Colorado, where he recently retired as a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones.

An active member of various civic groups, Craig took leadership roles in organizations such as the Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Chamber of Commerce, and Lions Club. His commitment to community service left an indelible mark on those around him.

Craig enjoyed a wide range of interests and pursuits. He shared the discipline of Tae Kwon Do with his sons, earning a second-degree black belt and subsequently instructing others. His love for horseback riding and team roping led to memorable pack trips to the Black Hills.

A self-taught musician, Craig picked up the guitar at the age of 15 and later mastered the banjo, mandolin, and dobro. In 1969, his band, The Sensational Soul Company, played at the Battle of the Bands in Los Angeles and later earned induction into the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Craig’s musical talents extended to his role as a music leader at St. Mary Catholic Church in Montrose, CO, where he led the music for Life Teen masses for eight years.

Since moving to New Castle, as an original member of the Smuggler Mountain Boys, Craig shared his affinity for bluegrass music playing and singing throughout the valley and participating in Sunday night jam sessions with local musicians.

Craig is survived by Judith his wife of 54 years, their children Daniel (Luba), Maggie (Eric Austin), Jonathan (Kelly); Anthony (Catherine), and grandchildren Aiden, Samuel, Chloe, Benjamin, Sophie, Sarah, and Adam; siblings Gary Snow, Jackie Schiernbeck, and Elizabeth Snow-Ketchum. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Scott Snow.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to Garfield County (CO) Libraries Foundation, New Castle Colorado Lions Club, or the music charity of your choice.
