Rifle lost a true historian, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, daycare “mother”, passionate parishioner and, to anyone lucky enough to know her; a dear and devoted friend. Maryhannah Hansen Throm was born to Richard A. and Mabel L. Hansen on January 23, 1927 on their ranch eleven miles south of Silt on Divide Creek. She attended the Fairview school for eight years. She graduated as valedictorian from Rifle Union High School in 1945. During her high school years, she lived with her grandmother at 750 Railroad Ave. in Rifle, CO where she resided until her death, on May 17, 2026. She was 99.25 years wise.
She married Charlie Throm on July 6, 1947, at her grandmother’s home. He died on February 6, 1998.
As a youth, she was active in Rainbow Girls, 4-H club and Methodist Youth Fellowship. A school chum witnessed her dressing down a bully in the playground and promptly nicknamed her “Hammer” in complete admiration. The name stuck as a lifelong endearment.
She was a member of the Methodist Presbyterian Church in Rifle, and served in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, youth counselor, and many committees. She received the Bishop Award in 2007, served on the Conference Board of Ministry 1989-1997. She was also active beyond the local church having served on several Conference Boards and was trustee for the Grand Mesa Christian Association. She received the Conference Camping award and Lay Leader for the Sub-District.
She was active in the community that she loved. She served on many committees including the planning of the State Highway 13 By-Pass through Rifle and the initial organization of Lift-UP. For over 28 years she delivered Meals on Wheels. In 2019, she received the Governor’s Service Volunteer Award and the Garfield County Humanitarian Award.
Maryhannah loved children. She provided a daycare home for many years. She was primarily a homemaker and youth supporter. She was a Scout leader, room mother, bake sale enthusiast and homework warden.
From 1974-1980 she worked as a business assistant for a local dentist but returned to daycare in 1982 after a brief experience in real estate.
She loved gardening, fishing, the mountains, her church and, especially, her family (including family gatherings). She was affectionately known as “The General”, being instrumental in the planning and promotion of the annual family reunion picnic.
One of her greatest joys was visiting many national parks with her sister, Dorth. She collected colorful magnets from each park.
She is survived by her son Donald Throm (Inez) of Parachute, CO, daughter Marianne Stanek (Paul), daughter Rebecca Blanc of Colorado Springs, daughter Karen Klebold Grand Junction, four grandsons, Shawn Lucchesi (Tiffany), Brian Blanc (Nicole), Mason Klebold (Erica), Corry Klebold (Jennifer), Doug Parker (cousin raised in Grandma Hansen’s house), two step granddaughters and husbands, seven step grandsons and wives, six great grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, four step great, great grandchildren, her sister Dorothy Hansen, and many other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, one grandson, one stepdaughter, one step granddaughter, two stepsons Chuck (Carolyn) Throm of Aurora, CO and Wesley Throm (Marilyn) of Cupertino, CA, and two sons-in-law, Larry Klebold and Albert Blanc.
A celebration of a life lived fully, wisely and filled with love, will be held June 6, 2026. Graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery, 777 Birch Ave., Rifle, CO at 12:00pm. Church service at Methodist Church, 200 E. 4th St., Rifle, CO at 1:00pm, followed by ice cream and cookies.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Rifle United Methodist Presbyterian Church, 200 E. 4th St., Rifle, CO 81650 or to the charity of your choice.
As one of her many loving fans said, “LOOK OUT ANGELS ~
HERE COMES HAMMER!”
