Obituary: Dorothy Hutton
August 2, 1932 – April 13, 2026
Dorothy Marie (Tingler) Hutton joined the church triumphant on April 13, 2026 in Austin, Texas while wintering with her daughter and son’s families.
Dorothy was born on August 2,1932 in Rifle, Colorado to Bernadette and Lawrence Tingler. Dorothy lived a full and unique life. Dorothy, along with her brother Billy, lived with her grandparents, Jess and Jesse Wells.
Her grandparents lived next door to the Methodist church where Dorothy attended for 81 years. Dorothy loved her church family and was a faithful member of the choir. Dorothy met the love of her life, Bob, while in high school. They married on Christmas Day,1950. They were married for 73 years, until Bob’s death in 2024. Dorothy’s first job was at the Ute movie theater. She also worked as a telephone operator, BenRex bookkeeper, bank teller and helped Bob run Hutton Heating and Sheetmetal. Her favorite job was driving the Sr. van for the community. Upon their retirement, they traveled often and wintered in Bahia Kino, Mexico for 20 years. The couple had 3 children: Sherry, Michael and Jesse. They also helped raise Dorothy’s younger sister and brother, Linda and Donald. Their home was always open to other family members for extended periods of time, as well as traveling hunters.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, brother Larry and son Jesse. She is survived by Sherry (Pat) Marshburn of Bastrop, Tx and grandchildren, Adrienne (Phillip) Thompson, great-grandchildren Gage and Trinity, granddaughter Jacqueline. Son Michael (Lea Ann) Hutton of Georgetown, Tx and grandchildren Kayla, Chandler (Brooke) and great-grandson Luke Robert and granddaughter on the way. Daughter in law Pam Hutton of Silt, grandchildren Courtney, Ty, Chad (Monica), great-granddaughter Genevieve, and Tucker (Kelsey), sister Linda (Jerry) Thatcher of Brighton, Co and brother Bill of Kinsale, Va and many Grand Junction, Denver and Idaho relatives.
There will be a Celebration of Life in Rifle, Co. on July 11, 2026 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church. Reception will follow at the Rifle Elks Lodge.
