Etta Mae Rey, 89, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on June 14, 2025. Born on April 17, 1936, in Nash, Oklahoma, to Virgil and Faye (Skaggs) Newell, Etta was raised in Nash and completed her high school education there. She married Robert Bergman, and together they had three sons: Terry, Tony, and Tim. Following their divorce, Etta married the love of her life, Raymond Rey, who preceded her in death in 1979. She will be laid to rest beside Raymond in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Etta was a checker at Safeway, where her lively spirit shone through her love for colorful earrings and passionate discussions about her favorite team, the Denver Broncos.
She is survived by her sons Tony (Debra) Bergman and Tim (Mindy) Bergman; sister Thressa Newell; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Etta was preceded in death by her son Terry Bergman, granddaughter Clarissa Bergman, brother Oral Newell.
A memorial service at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs and a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at later dates.
