Road work on I-70 will create weekend travel delays between mountains and Denver International Airport

Colorado transportation officials are warning drivers taking Interstate 70 to Denver International Airport of travel impacts over the next two weekends.
Full closures of I-70 in both directions are required to complete “critical bridge repairs” of interstate bridges over Kipling Street, or Colorado Highway 391, in Wheatridge, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Transportation. Traffic delays of 30 minutes or more are expected.
The two closures, each of which will last a little over 80 hours, are planned from 7 p.m. Friday evenings to 6 a.m. Tuesday mornings from Sept. 18-22 and Sept. 25-29, the release states.
A detour rerouting I-70 traffic through the Kipling Street interchange using the on- and off-ramps will be in place throughout the closures, according to CDOT. Because the on- and off-ramps will serve as temporary travel lanes, motorists will not be able to enter or exit I-70 at Kipling Street, which will be closed in both directions at the interchange.
