Gunfire prompts shelter-in-place alert in New Castle
A shelter-in-place order was issued for part of New Castle early Wednesday after a person reportedly fired a gun outside a home near Cathedral Court.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the Castle Valley neighborhood, according to the New Castle Police Department. A reverse 911 alert was sent to nearby homes while officers responded and investigated.
No injuries were reported, and police said there was no threat to the broader public. Officers are continuing to investigate why the person fired the weapon.
The police department said the notification lifting the shelter-in-place order was mistakenly sent to the entire county, making the incident appear more widespread than it was.
